Let your identity crisis save the day.
i am confused
confused as to who i am
confused as to where i am
confused as to why im here
i am confused
who should i be
where do i go
why should i go there
i am confused
is that such a bad thing
maybe thats the point
maybe yesterday was just meant to be
maybe today is a path to tomorrow
maybe tomorrow will help me see
maybe im meant to be as i am
maybe im meant to see what i see
maybe im meant to wait for now
wait in confusion
so, i say, i am confused
this is not so bad
with no proper view of tomorrow
my next step is all i have to act upon
confusion is an adventure im willing to go on
A poem written by me. Confusion arises in everyone. If you know what you’re doing, you are lying to yourself. Truth is, nobody is 100% sure of what they’re doing. Recently, I’ve been struggling with being confused. And last I checked I’ve been dealing with it since 2006. But right now it’s so frustrating to feel lost. I’m at the end of being a teenager and yes, I would love to know where my life is headed at. I feel like I’m at the wrong place almost all of the times. I feel like I’m wasting time but I am putting effort into what I really want to pursue. So I’m not really lost, because I am taking action, but the lack of result, the lack of a clear smooth path is fearsome. I have no idea about how this writing gig is going to take off. And I’m scared to figure out just how much I’m still going to be willing to pursue it.
You can take jealousy and use it as direction to see what you really want to have. You can take anger, a very loyal emotion, and use it to guard yourself and your best interest. You can take sadness and use it to express or even create. But what do you do with confusion? It’s mainly frustrating and all that plays in your head is “I dont have a clue“. You may not know who you are, you may not know of what you do, maybe you dont even know what your purpose is. And my first message to all of this would be that, it’s okay, it’s normal. This is a part of life and like any other emotion, it’s always going to be there.
I was at an event, and I was surrounded by accomplished CEOs and high-ranking people with long, impressive careers. And I got to talk to someone who was a host for a pannel discussion. I talked to him about my journey(or about the trying to start one) and told him I was so confused of what I need to do and where I should head. He just smiled and told me that it’s a wonderful thing to be confused. You get to try different things out and see what works for you. A fixed, narrow vision can shrink your choices. Being confused can do the opposite. It gives you room to try things and discover what suits you best. Confusion lets you be in on a path of your active choice and decisions. Already knowing the steps makes you very passive.
It’s great to be young and confused. Knowing all can be so stagnant and boring.
That conversation really opened my eyes. Confusion isn’t the problem. Fear is. You’re just afraid that the outcome of today won’t really end up being your dream. And that’s completely rational. But remember that the anecdote for anxiety or fear is action. You need to act. You need to do. Doing is being. You’re best bet right now is to just take the next step. If that’s the right step, keep going. If it’s the wrong step, take a step back and go up from another direction.
Life is not so final. Nothing is monumental. Nothing has the power to ruin your entire future. You are the one in power. And right now if you’re scared, just close your eyes, don’t try to look too far, just take the next best step. and I like to believe that before you know it, you will be living this absolute dream. Maybe confusion isn’t meant to derail you. Maybe it’s meant to pull you out of rigid reality and into possibility, into the quiet space of “what if” And in that space, things can unfold in your favour. The difference lies in how you use it.
